β οΈ Important Hitch Capacity Notes
There is growing demand for higher-rated receiver hitches. However, it is important to remember that as more weight is placed on the rear hitch, less control is typically available on the steer tires.
Bradford Built wonβt prevent you from towing 24,000 lbs. on the 2.5″ receiver hitch. The bed is designed to handle this load. Nevertheless, the key variable is the driver. You must haul smart. In addition, it is critical to monitor trailer loading carefully. The driver must also be experienced, especially when towing near maximum capacity.
Bradford Built wants you to handle large jobs confidently. At the same time, they want you to stay safe and make smart towing decisions.
Note: Previous beds with 2″ receiver hitches are not rated for 24,000 lbs.
ποΈ Strut the Rear Hitch for Maximum Capacity
In order to safely tow 24,000 lbs., the rear hitch must be strutted to the truck frame.
Flat or structural metal should be used at about a 45-degree angle. Conveniently, pre-cut holes are provided in the upright tubes for easy installation. Alternatively, you may weld directly to the rear bumper if preferred.
This extra bracing ultimately ensures both stability and safety when pulling at maximum capacity.
